FROM among other industries in the province, the tourism industry has the highest demands for skilled workers among other industries.

This fact was highlighted during the 2nd Pangasinan Skills Competition held at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC), Lingayen on Tuesday (September 22),

The number of job opportunities in Pangasinan tourism industry has grown from 17,892 in 2014 to 18,431 this 2015 and the demand in 2016 is projected at 18,984, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Region 1 Director Cenon Querubim reported.

Meanwhile, from 2012-2014, there were 92,804 TESDA-certified skilled workers in Pangasinan.

The skills competition, one of the highlights of this year’s Pangasinan Tourism Month celebration, is the first and only government-led and province-wide skills competition that serves as a venue where the best of Pangasinan’s future tourism industry service providers can showcase their talents and skills.

This year, over 20 state universities and colleges in the province competed in cookery, fruit and vegetable carving, bartending and flairtending, table skirting, napkin folding, table set-up, and virtual tour guiding.

Board Member Amado Espino III, who represented Governor Amado Espino Jr. during the event, told the audience that aside from beautiful places and good food, the tourism industry also focuses on good values of the locals. (Johanne Macob)
