Four students win 1ST PSPL chess tourney

DAGUPAN City has young chess wizards in the making after they emerged winners in the recently concluded 1st Inter-Private School Chess Championship.

In the high school division, the winners in the girls category were Geraldine Kate Cercado of Saint John Cathedral School, gold; Kathleen Paras of DWAD, silver; and Catherine Louise Gabriel of St. Michael School, bronze.

In the boys high school division, Kyle Brent Gallego of La Salette School, gold; John Rhuiz Bravo of La Salette School, silver; and Raven Paul Agacita of LNU-FQDMFSSHS, bronze.

In the elementary boys division were Domingo Abalos of JCAI, gold medal; Kenneth Sebastian Estacio of LNU–CMC, silver medal; and Enrico Gene Salinas of Saint John Cathedral School, bronze medal.

In the elementary girls division, the winners were Kriztiana Joie Ferrer of LNU-CMC, gold medal; Samantha Viray of La Salette School, silver medal; and Kim Salinas of SJCS, bronze medal.

The tournament was organized by the Private School Principals League (PSPL), in partnership with the Dagupan City Sports Commission (DCSC), at the 2nd floor of the city museum here.

“Gradually, we are changing the sports landscape in our city by developing and honing the skills of our athletes through a strong program in the different fields of sports and produce more champions, more winnings and medals,” said Mayor Belen T. Fernandez when she delivered her message in that tournament.
