Dagupan set to buy tractor for farmers

By October 4, 2015Business, News

THE Dagupan city council passed a resolution last week requesting Fourth District  Rep. Gina de Venecia to use the tobacco excise tax she secured from the Department of Budget and Management  (DBM) as share of Dagupan, for the purchase of one tractor to be used by local farmers.

A resolution sponsored by Councilor Jose Netu Tamayo cited the Php1.584,000 that the city will receive as its share of the excise tax meant to augment local resources to ensure the minimum level of basic services is delivered by the city government.

The resolution further justified the need to buy a tractor to be lent to farmers noting that carabaos and cows are already a rarity in urban Dagupan.

Although Dagupan considers bangus (milkfish) as its number one agricultural product, it also produces rice, vegetables and tobacco in its limited area located in the eastern and southern parts of the city that will soon be irrigated for the first time by the National Irrigation Administration (NIA).
