LINGAYEN–The 2015 Pangasinan Chess Festival sponsored by the provincial government was officially opened last September 12 at the Pangasinan Training and Development Center (PDTC) joined by some 300 chess players from Pangasinan and other provinces.

It coincided with the start of a series of monthly chess clinics this September and will continue every month till December.

The Pangasinan Chess Festival, now on its fifth year, is a brainchild of Governor Amado Espino Jr. which seeks to develop and hone Pangasinense chess players from the grassroots level.

The 5th Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. Chess Clinic slated on September 12, 13, 19 and 20 will serve as prelude to three chess tournaments sponsored by the provincial government namely: 5th Pangasinan Age Group Chess Championship (October 10-11); 5th Pangasinan Chess Championship (November 7-8); and 7th Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. Cup Open Chess Tournament (December 11-13).

More than 300 amateur and aspiring chess players from Pangasinan and nearby provinces and cities are expected to participate in the series of chess clinic.

Gov. Espino and Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Z. Calimlim, Jr. graced the opening ceremonies along with Grand Master-elect Haridas Pascua of Mangatarem town. (PIO)
