TO ensure uninterrupted service to communities, the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has appealed for public support to stop thieves in stealing transmission line hardware and materials.

“We are requesting the host communities of our substations to guard and protect the transmission line facilities against thieves” said Engr. Jose Arellano, head of the NGCP North Luzon Operations and Maintenance Division.

Arellano said the pilferage of transmission line assets can result in interruption of delivery of power to residents and businesses.

According to NGCP, stealing of electric materials is punishable under Republic Act 7832 or the “Anti-Electricity and Electric Transmission Lines/Materials Pilferage Act of 1994.” Violators face 12 to 20 years of imprisonment and a fine ranging from P50,000 to P100,000. (VHS/AMM/PIA-1, Pangasinan)
