779 wanted persons behind bars

LINGAYEN—The police in Pangasinan have arrested 779 wanted persons out of 2,920 listed as wanted persons in Pangasinan based on warrants of arrest received by the Police Provincial Office, over the last eight months, January to August this year.

This was reported by P/Senior Superintendent Rolie Saltat, OIC- police director, to the provincial board, adding that of the 779 wanted persons nabbed, 15 are the most wanted persons at the municipal level, five at the city level, two at the provincial level and one at the regional level.

Dagupan City Police Station scored highest in the number of arrested wanted persons with 65, followed by Urdaneta City Police Station with 51, San Carlos City Police Station with 39, Mangaldan Police Station with 32 and Alaminos City Police Station with 30.

Meanwhile, in the campaign against illegal drugs, the police arrested 702 pushers and users based on 570 operations made.

This led to the confiscation of 1,628.40 grams of shabu and 726.14 grams of dried marijuana leaves amounting to P1,552,274,624.025 Dangerous Drugs Board estimated value, he added.

The police also filed 769 cases in courts for violation of Republic Act 9165 or Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, Saltat said.

He said the number represent an 82 % increase in anti-drugs operations this year compared to previous year covering the same period.

He also reported that there were 124 murder cases, 166 homicide, 3,810 physical injuries and 176 rape reported from January to August this year.

Robbery cases had 373, theft with 2,053, carnapping 156 and cattle rustling 53.

Salta said from June 2014 to present, Pangasinan averages 18 shooting incidents per month, compared to previous years with 24 per month. (Tita Roces)
