MALASIQUI–Some 100 members of accredited hog raisers groups here attended a hog raising training seminar organized by the local government unit (LGU) in cooperation with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) last August 10.

Mayor Armando Domantay Sr. said aside from the training, the groups were also given a sow (inahing baboy) each, with free supply of foods and medicines or vitamins.

He said the LGU is also preparing for a carabao dairy production.
Meanwhile, a “Plant now, Pay later” scheme has been implemented in the town for accredited farmers association. Some 1,080 hectares were funded under the project by the Department of Agriculture (DA) under the bottoms-up-budgeting (BUB).

“At least 90 to 95 percent of the funds were already used by the farmers”, said Domantay.

The members of farmers associations were given free hybrid palay seeds with fertilizers that they pay later upon harvest.

The LGU also provided them with the necessary farming equipment like threshers, water pumps, among others. (Hilda Austria)
