Intensified police operations gaining on drug syndicates, say

IS the supply of shabu in Pangasinan tapering down?  The Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) believes so.

P/Supt. Benjamin Ariola, chief of the Provincial Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Task Group (PAIDSOTG), pointed to the small quantities of illegal drugs in the possession of pushers and users being seized by the police.

He said the seizure of big volumes of shabu in Alaminos City, Bani, Villasis, Asingan and Dagupan City were more of the exception.

He said the recent arrests of more drug personalities could be the reason for the decreasing volume of shabu circulating in the province. It means the drug syndicates are working with lesser people to receive the deliveries.

However, Ariola said the police do not discount the possibility that constricting the supply in the province could also be a strategy to increase the price of illegal drugs after police intelligence showed that the price of shabu in Pangasinan is the cheapest in the region.

The lower price is also an indicator that there was an abundant supply earlier.

Meanwhile, Ariola explained that due to the intensified police operations in the cities of Dagupan, Urdaneta, San Carlos and Alaminos cities, the police noted that drug syndicates have shifted their operations to neighboring towns.

He said the presence of more drug peddlers were felt in Villasis, Asingan and Pozorrubio and in Calasiao, Mangaldan, Malasiqui, and San Fabian.

Ariola attributed the unrelenting police operations to the commitment, dedication and perseverance of every policeman involved in the anti-illegal drug operations with the increasing cooperation of public officials. (Leonardo Micua/ Johanne Macob)
