Superintendent Jeff Fanged, city police chief, told The PUNCH, Obrero, patrol supervisor of Sector 4 of Urdaneta City Police Station, received a Certificate of Recognition from Mayor Amadeo “Bobom” Perez IV, Vice Mayor Franco Paolo Del Prado and City Councilor Bong Aduca.

Fanged also gave him cash gift.

While doing beat patrol Saturday morning near the Urdaneta City University, Obrero saw a wallet on a concrete pavement, picked it up and saw its contents.

He reported his find to their station and immediately tried to locate the owner.

The owner, Modesto Penuliar, also from Barangay Camantiles and taxi driver in Baguio City, was too happy for the return of his lost wallet.

“What SPO3 Obrero did was commendable and shows that there are still many honest policemen like him. No amount of money could match that act. It is very meaningful,” Fanged said.

He added that aside from being known as the cleanest and greenest city, they would like Urdaneta City to be identified as “Honest City”.

Fanged said after the media featured in November 2013 the honesty of two street children who returned a camera they found in an eatery, many Urdanetans, especially tricycle drivers, followed their noble deeds and returned also lost items they found.

They, too, were also cited during the station’s Monday flag raising ceremony. (Tita Roces)
