JUAN, KONEK IN DAGUPAN

“JUAN, Konek!” will be launched in Dagupan City soon.

It’s launching will be in the form of providing free Wi-Fi services in nine public high schools, City Library and the City Health Office, courtesy of the of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Information and Communications Technology Office (ICTO).

Mayor Belen T. Fernandez is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the DOST – ICTO on September 15 at the CSI Stadia for the implementation of the program.

The mayor met with DOST-ICTO’s Engrs. Elvis E. Cayabyab and Armando F. Rillera of the DOST last week to finalize the DOST-ICTO Multi-stakeholders ICT Forum and MOU with Dagupan City and other municipalities in the province.

“This is a dream come true for our city just as we have envisioned that our city will be a Smart City by 2016,” said Ms. Fernandez

The nine public high schools that will be wired are the Dagupan City National High School, Carael National High School, East Central Integrated School, Federico N. Ceralde Integrated School, Judge Jose De Venecia Sr. Memorial National High School, Salapingao National High School, Pugaro Integrated School and Bonuan Boquig National High School.

DOST-ICTO’s “Juan, Konek!” program is an implementation of the Television White Space (TVWS) Technology and free Wi-Fi in public places project.

Soon, DOST-ICTO will also introduce “eBusiness” and “Tech4ED.”

eBusiness will ensure the sustained growth and competitiveness of the ICT industry in the city in collaboration with the government and academe while Tech4ED will provide access points to bridge the digital and education divide. (CIO)
