Take a bow, Dagupan City Police Station!

WHEN our policemen are caught violating our laws, particularly protecting drug syndicates and dealers and other criminals, they are quickly condemned by an enraged community. When the police station manages to keep peace and order in the city, the grateful community takes it for granted because, after all, that is their mandated task.

But when our policemen’s own peers in the country recognize their achievements as beyond the standards set by them, the benefitted community cannot but feel proud and honored by the presence of the men and uniform assigned to protect them.

Today is a good time for Dagupeños to be proud of their Dagupan City Police Station because its men and women and uniform led by their chief, P/Superintendent Christopher Abrahano, earned the very respect of their peers. They earned the Unit Achievement Award for the Solution of Sensational Cases (City Police Station/Municipal Police Station Category in both the National and Regional levels, a citation worthy of mention and recognition.

The award speaks volume of the discipline, commitment and dedication of the members of the DCPS and the community has reason to be confident that their safety and welfare are secure in the hands of their policemen.

The SUNDAY PUNCH joins the city government and the community of grateful Dagupeños in congratulating the Dagupan City police for a job well done! We salute you!

We look forward to seeing DCPS earn more equally distinguished awards for playing that vital role in helping the city government finally make Dagupan City the first drug-free city in Luzon!

 ‘Poelitical’ suicide

POPULARITY isn’t really the final barometer to make a candidate win.  Grace Poe wasn’t popular in 2013; she ranked between No. 9 to No. 13 in many pre-election surveys.  Jinggoy Estrada was seeded first then.  And then Poe emerged No. 1 after the election, shocking even Grace’s adoptive mother, Susan Roces.  Two years later, Poe has consistently topped surveys as presidential front-runner, inspiring political pundits to say she should make a run at the Palace.

But the nagging question is, will Poe’s popularity translate to victory in 2016?  Hard to tell.  Some say she could be a serious contender, but only if major parties like Danding Cojuangco’s NPC and Manny Villar’s NP would back her.  P-Noy’s LP is lost to Mar Roxas, the party’s standard bearer as decreed by President Aquino.  Should Poe run as an independent—as many believe she would—it could be goodbye.  It’d be a shame, a waste of talent. “Poelitical” suicide even.
