No promises

THE nation listened to President Benigno S. Aquino III’s final State of the Nation Address, and waited with bated breath how he intends to deliver on his unfulfilled campaign promises before he bows out. The two-hour speech that came and went simply left millions wondering if PNoy actually told the nation that “The end is here and now!” with nary a word on what people can still expect from him in the next 10 months.

People had expected him to answer one simple question: Where are you bringing us before you turn over your power to your successor, Mr. President? Alas, there was no answer. And the people could not understand what the fashionably- dressed crowd was applauding PNoy for throughout.

Perhaps PNoy knew much about Pinoy’s short memory of the good things which was why he spent much of his time still blaming the Arroyo administration for the difficult time he had, and recited the endeavors where he believes he succeeded. He went about it short of telling the nation in its face: “This is my legacy, don’t you dare forget it!”

But in a situation where people constantly seek answers for a better life, the search is endless to this day. While his expression of gratitude to friends and allies was candid enough to merit some applause, his own silence on what people want to hear received a silent grudging boos that reverberated through out the islands.

The people got no promise of an even better life before he bows out.

Blood is thicker than…

FINALLY, President Aquino’s sisters Pinky Aquino-Arboleda and Ballsy Aquino-Cruz said they will no longer support Jojo Binay’s presidential bid in 2016.

Last year, Kris Aquino, P-Noy’s youngest sister, has said she and her sisters will throw their support behind Binay’s bid for the Palace. But just days after Binay left P-Noy’s Cabinet last June, Binay called P-Noy’s government “palpak at manhid” (bumbling and insensitive).

And we thought Binay knew his politics so well?  Why he hit P-Noy was beyond reason.  That burned bridges built for decades between him and P-Noy’s sisters—through the late Tita Cory.

“Binay is still our friend, but he is going against our brother,” Ballsy said.

Said Pinky: “I am only human.  As Ballsy said, the difference is very clear.  We just have to respect each other.”

Friendship versus blood.  By all means, blood prevails.  Always. This time, Binay blinked.
