Dukes douse Flames in UCAAP 2015 opening

DEFENDING champions Lyceum Northwestern University Dukes maintained its
supremacy in UCAAP caging by thumping the University of Pangasinan Flames, 76- 66, in the opening of the 2015 UCAAP Jimmy Fernandez Basketball Challenge held on August 25 at the Dagupan People’s Astrodome.

The Tapuac based Dukes of Nanoy Duque trailed in the first quarter by four points,
17-21, with the heroic plays of Flames’ Joe Anthony Jacinto and Ardel Valdez doing
the most damage.

But the Dukes came back with a vengeance in the second period to grab the front

and never relinquished it up until the fourth and final juncture led by its veteran and key players Rodcel Yanga, Roxar Melendez and Jonathan Ayad combining 37 points to thwart the 2005 champion.

Yanga had a team high 15 points with Melendez and Yanyan Catabay contributing
12 points apiece while Ayad added ten, six of them done in the last quarter.
Jacinto had a game 19 points with two triples while Valdez contributed 15 for the
Flames.

In the second game, PHILCST Topnotch survived a tense and heart-breaking victory over the stubborn and determined AIE Green Eagles, 81-79, to uphold its supremacy over the Calasiao-based boys of Ric Bautista.

Hostilities will be played on Tuesdays and Fridays at Dagupan People’s Astrodome
and at Dr. Salvador T. Duque Fieldhouse, respectively, starting at 2:00 p.m. (JAG, Jr.)
