Last year, only one death was recorded with 1,440 suspected cases over the same period.

Ages of victims of dengue cases this year ranged from below one to 89 years old.

Most commonly affected was 10-14 age group with 305 cases or 22 percent.

Majority of cases were male with 777 cases or 55 percent.

The towns/cities with the highest number of dengue cases this year are: Alaminos City (125), Sison (108), Dagupan City (102).

Last year, Mangatarem had zero dengue but it has 12 this year. On the other hand, only Basista town has zero dengue case so far.

Dr. Jeremy Agerico Rosario, assistant provincial health officer, said his office started to notice the rise in dengue cases about a month ago.

“It can be treated if the patient seeks early medication,” he added.

He advised the public to observe year-round observance of 4S to fight and prevent dengue, namely, search and destroy, self-protection measures, seek early consultation and say “No” to indiscriminate fogging. (Tita Roces)
