Dagupan students shine in international Mathematics competition

JEFFREY Jan Jabanes, pride of Pangasinan Universal Institute (PUI), asserted his supremacy in Math when he earned the gold medal for level 3 during the International Mathematics Competition held in Singapore from July 31 to August 3, 2005.

In the same competition, Isabella Marie Escaño of Mother Goose Special School System Inc. (MGSSSI) bagged the bronze medal for level 5.

At the International Mathematics Wizard Competition (IMWIC) held in Hong Kong, Jeila Ubando also of MGSSSI won a bronze medal-level 1; bronze medal-level 4 for Karl Uriel Dela Cruz of St. Albert Great School (SAGS) and bronze medal-level 5 for Ryann Lim of PUI.

Meanwhile, a Certificate of Merit-level 1 was awarded to Emmanuel Jamse Laforteza (MGSSSI); Certificate of Merit-level 2 to Adrian Gabriel Conte (MGSSSI); Certificate of Merit-level 9 to Maala Kathryn Therese (MGSSI); Certificate of Participation- level 2 to Samantha Louise Samson (MGSSSI); Certificate of Participation- level 5 to Bernabe Dy III (MGSSSI) and Certificate of Participation- level 9 to Erson Muyalde of the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS).

School Division Superintendent Dr. Froserfina Bravo and Education Program Supervisor for Mathematics Dr. Rosalinda Lomibao accompanied the delegates in the two international competitions.

The participants first underwent year-round intensive trainings and elimination stages before becoming qualifiers in the International Math Competition held on the two countries. They were already considered winners in the Philippines.

In congratulating the students, Mayor Belen T. Fernandez said:  “The City Government of Dagupan is proud of your achievements.”
