NATIONAL RECORD HOLDER

AN 11-year old girl Dagupeña surely put the city in the country’s swimming sports map.

The Dagupan swimming sensation is Janelle Alisa T. Lim not only brought home eight gold and three silver medals in the SPEEDO National Long Course Swimming Competition held July 16 to 19 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila, but established a national record.

Lim established the national record in the swimming competition for the 11-year-old category in 50m freestyle with her 31.20 seconds time beating 2010 record of 31.26.

Lim, a Grade VI pupil of the Genesis School, presented her medals to Mayor Belen Fernandez when she paid a courtesy call on Aug. 3 during the regular executive session of department heads at CSI Stadia on August 3.

“I am proud and happy for Janelle Alisa for winning 8 gold and 3 silver medals and establishing a national record,” the mayor said.

Lim was accompanied by her proud parents Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Lim, her coach at the Bert Lozada Swimming School and Finnela Sim, a member of the Dagupan Sports Commission and also a swimming consultant.

“It is heartwarming that Janelle’s father recognized our efforts in rehabilitating our swimming pool and free swimming lessons as these contributed to her daughter’s success in winning the swimming competition,” Ms. Fernandez said.

“I am doubly happy because this is the first national record for Dagupan”, said Fernandez. (Leonardo Micua)
