LINGAYEN—The bid for Guinness World Record as the world’s fastest 100-meter backward runner by Jojo Bigay, originally scheduled on July 25 was reset on September 10 this year.

Bigay, 46 year-old backward runner said the schedule had to be reset due to the bad weather experienced by the entire country weeks ago preventing him to train.

“I wasn’t able to train due to continuous rains,” said Bigay.

He admitted that in his initial return to training, he recorded 14 to 15 seconds, far from his 13.3 seconds target to beat Ferdie Atoe Adoboe of Germany who recently earned the fastest backward runner title with 13.6 seconds in 100 meters.

“It seems I will have difficulty beating the record so we decided to postpone it,” he said.

Bigay apologized to his supporters for the delay but he assured them bid will finally happen on September 10, ten o’clock in the morning at the Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center.

“I want to be very sure I can break the record because I believe this is a one-time opportunity not only for me but for the province and the country as well,” said Bigay.

The bid of Bigay will be documented under the guidelines set by Guinness. (Hilda Austria)
