Another national award for Mayor Belen and city

WHEN it rains, it pours for Dagupan City and Mayor Belen Fernandez.
She was chosen the recipient of the Batch Valedictorian Award by the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) in recognition of her role as its focal person for the K to 12’s Senior High School (SHS) program.
The award was presented to Ms. Fernandez by LCP Secretary General Delmar De Guzman, mayor of Marikina City during the 62nd LCP General Assembly at Crowne Plaza. Manila Galleria on July 25.
The LCP also conferred an award to the city of Dagupan as the “most resourceful city of the Philippines” for the SHS program.
The SHS is a City Leaders project of LCP.
“I thank LCP for the honor given me and the city of Dagupan. I believe in the K to 12. Ever since, I had no doubt that the government is prepared for this program,” said Ms. Fernandez.
As focal person for the senior high school program, Ms. Fernandez was tasked to mentor other cities in the Philippines on how to meet the challenges posed by the SHS program
Ms. Fernandez said Dagupan will be ready to implement the SHS upon completion of the construction of 139 additional classrooms to accommodate the incoming Grade 11 students.
Some of these classrooms are being built with the help of the private sector.
The city government has allocated P18.5 million to the Dagupan City National High School for its additional classrooms including a three-storey Arts and Science building.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will build 70 classrooms at DCNHS from the budget of DepEd while the Security Bank Foundation is building a two-storey school building, comprising of eight classrooms at the DCNHS.
Some school buildings will be built by the Philippine Games and Amusement Corporation through the initiative of Fourth District Rep. Gina de Venecia to be built in other parts of the city. (Leonardo Micua)
