LINGAYEN—Some 155 families from Asingan and Binalonan who lost their houses when a tornado damaged their villages two months ago received financial assistance in the amount of P192,000 from the provincial government last July 28.

Families who suffered total or extreme damages on their houses received P10,000 each while P5,000 were given to those who suffered partial damages including those injured.

On hand to distribute the cash assistance in both towns were Vice Governor Jose Ferdinand Calimlim, Provincial Board Member Amado Espino III, and officials of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) led by Emilio Samson last July 28.

The amount was sourced from the Emergency Shelter Assistance Program (ESAP)

Based on PSWDO records, there were 23 totally damaged houses in Barangay Bantog in Asingan while three houses were partially damaged and two persons were injured in the tornado that hit the communities.

However, it was Bayambang town that suffered extensive damages after another tornado hit the town on June 13 that affected 13 barangays.

Board Member Ranjit Shahani, who joined the distribution in Asingan town, commended the administration of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. for extending its helping hands to the affected families.

Board Member Angel Baniqued Jr. joined both Espino and Calimlim in Bayambang.

According to earlier reports, the tornado that swept through Sitio Aragaag in Bantog, Asingan uprooted trees and unroofed houses.

The tornado also destroyed a funeral home where the roof was blown off and many caskets were blown away.

Before providing the cash assistance, the provincial government provided basic construction materials for the affected families in Bayambang town.
