Watch out for police “bike patrollers”

LINGAYEN—Watch out for your police-on-bike patrols in your town or city.

Soon all the towns and cities in Pangasinan will have trained cops on bike patrols after the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO)’s officer-in-charge P/Senior Superintendent Rolie Saltat decided to adopt it as one of the good practices of the local police force.

“It will save us on gas consumption and it is good for the heart,” remarked Saltat of the project.

Saltat underscored that bike patrols will be effective particularly in crime prevention in areas that cannot be reached by car patrols.

The launch of bike patrols will be simultaneous in all stations through bicycle convoy around the province.

Designated two bike patrollers from each police station will initially undergo a ten-day bike patrol training from instructors from Police Regional Office 1 Training School that completed training in Camp Crame.

Training will be held sometime this July, Saltat said.

Funding for the procurement of bicycles will be sourced from the stations’ maintenance and other operating expenses. (Johanne Macob)
