Top bets rule Milo’s first qualifying race

MARATHON veterans Cesar Castañeto and Christabel Martes easily ruled the Milo Marathon first qualifying race to earn their respective berths in the coming National Finals on December 6 in Angeles City, Pampanga.

Castañeto, 26, a high school teacher in Baguio City, clocked the 21-kilometer men’s division footrace in one hour, 13 minutes and nine seconds while the four-time winner Martes was the fastest in the women’s category in one hour, 26 minutes and 45 seconds. The duo received P10,000 each with glass trophy apiece.

Sto. Tomas town’s pride and national duathlon champion Robeno Javier came in far second five minutes and three seconds behind pocketing P6,000 plus trophy while Laoag City ace Reynaldo Pascua checked in third worth P4,000 and also with trophy, five minutes 15 seconds off the pace.

There were more than 12 thousand runners and were conducted in four categories.

Next qualifying race will be held in Baguio City on July 5, Tarlac City on July 12, Bataan on July 19, Metro Manila on July 26 before moving to southern Luzon.

The top winners in the men and women categories in the National Finals will represent the Philippines in the Boston Marathon on April 18, 2016. (JAG, Jr.)
