LINGAYEN—The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) here expressed through a resolution its support to the Senate and Congress proposals seeking for an increase in the salaries of public school teachers and personnel.

House Bill No. 245 and its counterpart Senate Bill No. 2351, authored by Representative Antonio Tinio and Senator Loren Legarda, respectively, aim to increase the monthly minimum wage of public school teachers to P25,000 and non-teaching personnel to P15,000.

The objective of the two bills is anchored on the provision of Article XIV, Section 5 (5) of the 1987 Philippine Constitution which mandates the State to give the highest budgetary priority to education and ensure adequate remuneration to those in the teaching profession.

The SP resolution authored by Board Members Alfonso Bince Jr. and Danilo Uy “recognizes the important role of teachers in the development of students as they are often the source of their learning experience in becoming better citizens in the future.” (Johanne Macob)
