Rachel Grant raises funds for Bani evac-school center

BANI—Rachel Grant, a Filipina-British actress who starred as “Peaceful Fountains of Desire” intelligence agent in the James Bond movie, “Die Another Day” and in many more movies, has been busy raising funds for a typhoon-shelter and school in a community here.

Grant said in an interview through Facebook, the project began when she visited the community called “Fountain of Love” in the hillside of Bani.

“The 600-resident community had many children and no school. I also learned the community had all survived the eye of a typhoon and there was no evacuation center for them. So I pledged to build something to help them,” she said.

GRANTSince then, she has been raising funds for a typhoon shelter and a school in Bani and has so far completed the construction for the ground floor of the building.

She admitted donations have been slow lately so she decided to have an online sale of her photos with her own personal message and autograph. The revenues from the sale of the photos are directly channeled to the project through the Padua Charitable Fund, a British-registered charity founded by her Filipina mother Isabel Padua-Grant with her Padua cousins in London in 2007 to help underprivileged communities in the Philippines.

Grant also ships her pictures to buyers for free. “I’m hoping to raise around $5000 over 2 months and in just 5 days the response has been good with almost $2000 already donated to the charity through photo sales”, Grant said.

The photo sale is advertised in Grant’s Facebook account while the link of the photo sale page is in her travel website, www.rachelgrant.tv/shop.

She said the charity also accepts material donations such as paints and cements from individuals or companies. In return for their logo appearing on the structure and on the charity website, the charity will accept materials as donations.

Last year, Grant did a photo shoot for Jamaica building company in Pangasinan in exchange for a Php60,000 worth of cement to the school.

“I truly believe God is leading me on some sort of path with more tasks at hand. Whatever it is, I’m very grateful for the journey and to meet so many inspiring people along the way”, said Grant. (Hilda Austria)
