LINGAYEN—All police stations in the province have been directed to reinforce security in their jurisdictions by establishing neighborhood night watchers and work with barangay officials and residents after police chiefs analyzed the data gathered on incidents of robbery and theft.

This was the main agenda tackled during the command conference held with the chiefs of police of the 48 towns and cities of the province last July 15.

For the first half of the year, the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office (PPPO) registered 265 robbery and 1, 356 theft incidents.

Supt. Ferdinand De Asis, police information officer said, Dagupan City had the most number of robbery incidents with 65, followed by Mangaldan with 26, and San Carlos City with 21.

PPPO said Dagupan City and San Carlos City also topped the most number of theft incidents because cities are more populous and have more business establishments.

Police described robbery is committed by taking something forcibly, while theft is committed without force i.e., “budol- budol’, ‘salisi’ and crimes against property include stealing parked motorcycles or bicycles.

Meanwhile, Supt. Jackie Candelario, chief of Mangaldan Police Station (MPS) said the recorded incidents in the town were mostly solved and new security measures were implemented.

He said seminars on security awareness for school and bank and financial institution in the town were conducted alongside the intensified patrolling.

“We are going to train the barangay peace-keeping action teams (BPATS) for crime prevention as well as for rescue purposes especially during this disaster month”, said Candelario. (Hilda Austria)
