Pangasinan PWDs Win Paralympics Nat’l Games-Luzon Leg

Lingayen – Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. commended the members of the Pangasinan Federation of Persons With Disabilities (PFPWD) for topping the 4th stage of Philippine Sports for the Differently Abled (PHILSPADA) Paralympics National Games – Luzon Leg held last June 30 to July 6 at Rizal Sports Complex in Manila and ULTRA in Pasig City.

Besting hundreds of participants, the PWD group of Team Pangasinan romped off with 22 medals to include 9 gold, 6 silver and 7 bronze medals in PHILSPADA, a sports development program for PWDs initiated by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

In a courtesy call with the Governor on July 16, the group received special cash incentives from the provincial government as a token of gratitude for bringing honor to the province.

Gov. Espino said several projects were attributed to the sector such as livelihood and employment, sports and other worthy endeavors that aim to support the differently-abled Pangasinenses.

Meanwhile, David Bulario, Pangasinan-PWD federation president said that their group has been receiving huge support from the incumbent provincial administration way beyond financial assistance.

It can be recalled that a cash assistance of P100,000 was awarded by the provincial government to the PFPWD group last May 14 to be utilized as contingency fund for the purchase of equipment for their database system and for the recently-held PHILSPADA.

Gold medals were captured mainly by PWD athletes who competed in athletics and throwing events. Winners are: Jerome Fernandez, Binmaley (100 meter run, 200 meter run and 400 meter run); Judy Ann Esperanzate, Bugallon (100 meter run and 200 meter run); Shiela Mallari, San Fabian (shot put and discus throw); Rodelo Cabildo, San Fabian (discus throw); and Janice Jaranilla, Bolinao (Table Tennis).

Silver medallists in the PHILSPADA 2015 were: Jemarie Pimentel, Bugallon (100 meter run and 200 meter run); Noli Tabucol, Bolinao (javelin throw); Renato Calderon, Bugallon (long jump); Mark Anthony Tenorio, Bugallon (800 meter run – relay); and Janice Jaranilla (Table Tennis).

Bronze placements were courtesy of: Renato Calderon (100 meter run and 800 meter run); Leo Macalanda, Urdaneta City (Table Tennis); Mark Anthony Tenorio (400 meter run); Christopher Bautista, San Fabian; and Noli Tabucol (discus throw).

Winners of various sporting events will advance in the 2016 Philippine National Games – PHILSPADA Paralympic Games tentatively scheduled on February next year at Narciso Ramos Sports and Civic Center (NRSCC), here.

Aside from this, other accomplishments of the PFPWD include the feat of Arjhessa Espiritu, a visually-impaired beauty queen from Bautista town who bagged the national title Miss Philippines – Vision 2013 and Julie Austria of San Carlos City who was adjudged runner-up for Miss Philippines – Wheels 2013.

Another exceptional Pangasinense PWD, Jennifer Garcia from Malasiqui town will represent the country in an international competition in France next year after she captured the championship of the English Text Processing Category during the 2014 Kakayahan IT Skills national competition.
