New policy for suspension of classes being mulled

By July 19, 2015Inside News, News

IN case monsoon rains or typhoon seriously affect only a part of the province, the Governor may only declare “No Classes” in some sections, and no longer applicable to the whole province as normally applied today.

Like a declaration of “No Classes” in Western Pangasinan but classes will continue in Eastern and Central Pangasinan.

This proposed policy for declaration of “no classes” by the governor is now under study by Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) after noting that the condition in one part of Pangasinan may not be the same in another given the province’s big land size.

PDRRMC Spokesperson Avenix Arenas, speaking during the KBP forum in Dagupan on Thursday, said the sectional suspension of classes is being studied in view of the observation that when classes from pre-school to elementary was suspended throughout Pangasinan last July 15, only slight downpour was felt in eastern Pangasinan while the province’s western parts was experiencing continuous moderate to heavy rains.

A case in point that was cited was the day when the level of the Agno river crisscrossing several towns of eastern Pangasinan and meanders through some towns in central Pangasinan was normal but the Sinocalan River in the central part of the province and the Bued River in the northern part of Pangasinan swelled.

As proposed, the PDRRMC will recommend the suspension of classes whenever it is necessary even in the absence of any typhoon signal but based on its evaluation of the conditions obtaining on the ground and from reports of Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (MDRRMC).

And in the absence of Gov. Amado Espino Jr., PDRRMC chairman will be authorized to announce it after which a public advisory will be sent to all media outlets by the Public Information Office (PIO) and the same is posted in the province’s Facebook and Twitter accounts at about 8:00 P.M. or earlier for the information of all Pangasinenses.
