Last batch of Dagupan evacuees return home

THE last of 65 families comprising of more than 200 persons who were evacuated to the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome when floodwater rose to dangerous level in their villages last July 18 have returned to their respective homes.

For almost a week, the families were provided hot meals by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) and were also attended to by doctors and nurses of the City Health Office.

Floodwaters in Dagupan City have completely subsided, including the flooded Sitios Fisheries and Claveria in Barangay Malued, enabling the remaining families at the Dagupan Astrodome to pack up and head for home.

Malued is one of the 19 barangays flooded in Dagupan as a result of 15 days of monsoon rains, aggravated by rise of tidal water from adjacent rivers.

Earlier, on the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (CDRRMC) headed by Mayor Belen Fernandez, the city council placed the following barangays under the state of calamity: Malued, Calmay, Pantal, Carael, Herrero-Perez, Pogo Chico, Pogo Grande, Lasip Chico, Lasip Grande, Tapuac, Bacayao Sur, Bacayao Norte, Mayombo, Poblacion Oeste, Lucao, Caranglaan, Barangay I, Barangay II and III and Barangay IV.

The CDRRMO headed by Ronald de Guzman effected forced evacuation of residents of Sitios Fisheries and Claveria in Barangay Malued since most were hesitant to evacuate. (Leonardo Micua)
