I want to do a positive campaign, not negative – Mark C.

COJUANGCO UPDATES

FORMER Pangasinan Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco said he has no time for mudslinging because he is focused in explaining to the people his plans for Pangasinan and how he intends to do these.

Cojuangco, incessantly criticized by some quarter soon after he announced his intent to run for governor in 2016, told newsmen, said “I want a campaign that is positive not negative.”

He said he would even waste his time to appeal to his detractors.

Gusto ko lang sabihin sa taong bayan, tingnan nyo ang ginagawa nila. Tama ba yan o mali, positibo ba yan o negatibo (I want to tell the people, look at what they are doing. Is that right or wrong, is that positive or negative)?” the three-term congressman said.

He said in order for the people to get balanced information, he is open to having discussion or debate on issues. He said this way, there would be no hearsays but documents and facts to support any claim.

Cojuangco said he is willing to debate with anyone as long as the issues are defined. “We will only express anyway what we intend to do,” he said in Filipino.

Asked if he is not piqued over criticism hurled at him by his detractors, Cojuangco said, “Ang turo po sa akin nung nag-umpisa ako sa pulitika, sa pulitika po ang pikon laging talo. Parte o bahagi po yan ng ating trabaho at dapat lang po ipaliwanang lang palagi kung ano yung katotohanan. Yun lang po ang mahalaga (What was taught to me when I started in politics, that in politics the one who is peeved/piqued always loses. That is part of our work and it is proper to explain always the truth. That is what’s important),” he added.

Angela Joyce Soriano, grade III pupil of Pagal Elementary School, in San Carlos City, joins veteran newsmen in a chance interview with former 5th district Rep. Mark Cojuangco after their school’s induction program Thursday.  The other photo shows Cojuangco with happy pupils of said school in a photo-op. In this interview, Cojuangco shares his feelings towards criticisms hurled against him and his Mediaklinga medical-surgical mission project for the poor Pangasinenses.

Meanwhile, in the same interview, Cojuangco said it is unfortunate that he and Calasiao Mayor Mark Macanlalay’s Medikalinga Program, a medical-surgical program for the poor, especially in remote areas in Pangasinan, is being maligned by some quarters.

Nakakalungkot na pinupulitika po ang programang ito na nakakatulong sa ating mga kapatid (It is saddening that this program which benefits our brethren is politicized),” he added.

He said doctors assisting in this noble project are licensed, trained and experts and medicines given to the beneficiaries are certified by the Food and Drug Administration.

He said in one instance, the medical mission team was harassed in one town while serving the indigent people. He said the people spoke out and defended the team, prompting another group trying to prevent the conduct of said project to back-off.

In another instance, he said one newsman concocted a story by twisting facts and attributed the death of one person to the MediKalinga mission.

Cojuangco said records showed that the person alleged by a broadcaster to have died from an operation of cyst seven months ago courtesy of the Medikalinga mission, actually died of tuberculosis.

Ang inopera po sa kanya ay bukol sa batok wala pong koneksyon (sa pagkamatay niya) at kalahating taon na ang lumipas (matapos siyang maoperahan) magaling na po ang kanyang sugat,” he added.

Cojuangco said he is not a bit discouraged and would continue this project which has served thousands of indigent people across Pangasinan by giving them free transportation, free surgery and medicines.

He said he finds consolation when people, like senior citizens, who are not known to him surprise him by suddenly embracing him while attending some events just to thank him for the help he has extended to them through the MediKalinga project.

Data gathered showed that as of May, there were 12, 575 that have been served requiring minor surgery, 915 for medium surgery and 431 major surgery for cyst, hernia, hemorrhoids, goiter, cholelithiasis, myoma, submandibulas mass and breast mass.
