Sun Asia to build solar farms for Decorp

By June 22, 2015Business, News

THE first solar farms to be put up in Pangasinan will soon be a reality following a meeting last June 16 between officials of Sun Asia and the Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp).

Jojo Liwag, retail service manager of the Dagupan Electric Corporation (Decorp), said Sun Asia will build the solar farm which will produce 20 megawatts of power and supply the same to Decorp.

As soon as their negotiation is completed, Sun Asia will begin the project whose completion is expected after seven months and Liwag is confident it would be operational by the first or second quarter of next year.
The solar farms will be put up in San Jacinto, Sta. Barbara, San Fabian and Manaoag, all service areas of Decorp.

Construction, operation and maintenance of these farms will be solely at the expense of Sun Asia and nothing from Decorp, Liwag said during the KBP forum in Dagupan on June 18.
Since these solar farms are embedded with Decorp, transmission cost is expected to be reduced which translate to lower charges to its consumers.

When Decorp buys bulk power from a supplier, it passes through the transmission line, which entails costs that are passed on to the consumers.

According to Liwag, if Decorp’s traditional power supplier fails to deliver power for one reason or another, the solar farms can be tapped, sparing the company’s service areas from brownouts. (Leonardo Micua)
