LINGAYEN— A Pangasinan woman cyclist participated in the 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held in Singapore and returned home with a gold medal.

The achievement was hailed by the provincial board and passed a resolution “commending Marella Vania Salamat for being a gold medalist in the recently concluded 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games held in Singapore last June 5-16.”

She earned her gold medal in the Women’s Cycling, 30-kilometer Individual Time Trial category, with time record of 44 minutes and 46.38 seconds.

The young cyclist is a 21-year old Dentistry student of the University of the East whose proud parents are Engr. Rod Salamat, a former municipal councilor, and Dr. Marivic Salamat, of Sitio Salingcaoet, Brgy. Poblacion, Bugallon.

“The sterling performance of Marella Vania Salamat at an early age is an inspiration and model of the youth of the province,” stated the resolution authored by second district board member Nestor Reyes.

Salamat is expected to receive a copy of the resolution during this week’s regular board session. (Johanne Macob)
