CALASIAO—There is enough rice to feed families in the region throughout the year.

National Food Authority (NFA) Regional Director Carlito Co said last week that there are more than one million bags of rice in its inventory and there will be enough even during the lean months.

The agency’s importation of about 600,000 bags from Vietnam had arrived and still more are expected to arrive.

He said the El Niño phenomenon did not affect the region except in Ilocos Norte where about 200 hectares of rice land were affected. He added that the rains in the afternoon help the dry farmlands.

Farmers are expected to start planting when the rainy season sets in. (Tita Roces)
