PSU opening of classes moved to July

LINGAYEN— The start of classes in all the campuses of the Pangasinan State University (PSU) has been moved to July 6, instead of the usual June opening like all public schools in the province.

PSU president, Dr. Dexter Buted said the ongoing preparations and renovations have not been completed. “We would like to provide better rooms, better facilities, better PSU,” said Buted.

Upon assuming his post last year, he had already indicated that 95% of the PSU classrooms needs to be rehabilitated.

For the planned renovation, the PSU main campus in Lingayen has been allocated P30 million for the construction and renovation of classrooms, P50 million for PSU Urdaneta campus, P7 million for the San Carlos City campus, and P 4.5 million for Binmaley and Asingan campuses.

All other campuses have been allotted P2 million each for improvements.

Further, nine million books are due for distribution in the different PSU campuses.

“All these developments are part of the new university vision to make PSU an ASEAN premier state university by 2020,” Buted said that postponement also paves the way for the gradual transition to August calendar shift of the university.

Despite the ongoing improvements of the PSU, the university president said there will be no increase in tuition fees, except for the implementation of the 2010 resolution allowing for minimal tuition fee increase for the night shift schedule.

PSU still offers a P250 per unit or less than P6,000 per semester tertiary education.

For the K to12 implementation, PSU started an integrated school in Bayambang for pilot testing.

PSU campuses are in Lingayen, Binmaley, San Carlos City, Bayambang, Urdaneta City, Asingan, Sta. Maria, Infanta and Alaminos City.  (Johanne Macob)
