Mayor Belen T. Fernandez received the award from PhilHealth Regional Vice President Dr. Douglas Cardona on June 3 at CSI Stadia.

Ms. Fernandez was accompanied by City Health Officer Leonard L. Carbonell, Technical Consultant for Health Caressa Joy Calugay and City Social Welfare and Development officer-in-charge Leah T. Aquino.

Dagupan enrolled 15,000 indigent families in PhilHealth in 2014 that cost the city P8 million in premium payments.

“The award inspires us to be of service more to our city under our Unliserbisyo Program which we launched with the thought of helping the poor especially those who have no means to pay for their hospital bills,” said Fernandez. “It breaks my heart to see them helpless when they get sick,” she added.

She said Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Memorial Hospital will soon implement the  “No balance-No billing” policy and the point of care treatment, the first pilot project of PhilHealth in the country.

“I am thankful to Atty. Alex Padilla, PhilHealth Administrator, for being responsive to the needs of our constituents. We will work together with Dr. Vivencio Villaflor and his medical team and Dr. Cardona to make this project successful.”

“Thank you, too. Dra. Nene Villaflor for always lending a helping hand to support our program for the indigents,” said Ms. Fernandez.
