PPAC endorses prov’l police’s 2 best practices

TWO best practices of the Pangasinan Provincial Police Office (PPPO) won the support of the Pangasinan Police Advisory Council (PAC) composed of private citizens representing various sectors headed by lawyer Gonzalo Duque, chancellor of the Lyceum Northwestern University (LNU) and The PUNCH columnist.

The PAC, in its meeting at Le Duc Hotel on Tuesday, endorsed the Community Assistance and Response Team (CART) and the Provincial Task Group “Race Tracker’ both of which are now being implemented successfully by the Pangasinan police in 44 towns and four cities of Pangasinan.

Both police best practices are being hailed for being highly instrumental in preventing crimes and in arresting criminals and law violators in Pangasinan in the past.

CART is a police desk in the field manned by two or three uniformed policemen where any people can go to and ask for help should they see criminals in their midst or are under threat by them.

PAC noted that CART achieved significant headways in deterring the occurrence of crimes and increase police presence where they are needed most.

CARTs were posted near schools during the opening of classes in a bid to protect pupils and students from troublemakers and drug pushers.

The PTG ‘Race Tracker,’ meanwhile, is a police intervention to address the prevalent shooting and robbery incidents perpetrated by motorcycle riding criminals (MRCs) who sow terror in the streets.

In response to MRCs, the police trained some of its personnel in motorcycle riding and organized them into Motorized Anti-Street Crimes Operatives (MASCO) to go after criminals riding on motorcycle.

Supt. Benjamin Ariola, operations officer of the Pangasinan police, said PTG ‘Race Tracker’ prescribes the operational guidelines in the conduct of police operations against MRCs and other mobile criminals.

The project involves close coordination with all police units in other towns and cities in the pursuit and interception of criminal elements, particularly the MRCs. (Leonardo Micua)
