6 jail guards charged for escape of 2 inmates

LINGAYEN—Six provincial jail guards have been charged administratively for the escape of two inmates from the Pangasinan Provincial Jail last June 1.

Provincial Legal Officer Geraldine Baniqued said the letter containing the complaint had been received on June 15 by the respondents namely, Julio Tamondong, Joy Mondero, Danilo Colis, Wynsel Sison, Huebner Velasco and Jimmy Nabung.

Baniqued, who chairs the provincial government investigating committee involving administrative charges against employees, said the administrative charge was issued after the respondents submitted their respective explanations about the escape of two inmates on June 1.

They were not, however, placed under preventive suspension.

The escapees were Rogelio Garcia, 41, resident of Poblacion, Lagangilang, Abra (charges for illegal sale of firearms and ammunition) and Ronie Zarate, 25, resident of Barangay Ambonao, Calasiao accused of car theft with murder.

Garcia was captured in San Carlos City while Zarate was shot dead after he threw a grenade at arresting Dagupan policemen in Barangay Pantal.

The grenade did not explode. (Tita Roces)
