2 inmates bolt Pangasinan Provincial Jail

LINGAYEN— One of the two prisoners that bolted the Pangasinan Provincial Jail last Monday was recaptured in San Carlos City while the other managed to elude the arresting officers.

Rogelio Garcia, 41, resident of Poblacion, Lagangilang, Abra facing illegal sale of firearms and ammunition, was captured in San Carlos City but not after wounding Police Officer 1 Romer Pilor from San Carlos City Police Station, in the face with a fan knife during the scuffle that ensued.

Ronie Zarate, 25, resident of Barangay Ambonao, Calasiao accused of carnapping with murder, managed to flee.

The two managed to escape the jail facility by punching duty jail guard Wynsel Sison after he opened the steel gate going to the visitors lobby to hand over foods bought by a certain Mila Dimaporo intended for her husband, inmate Asnawi Dimaporo.

The escapees hurriedly boarded a rented red van but the driver not realizing that his passengers were escapees decided to stop near the police station in San Carlos City when the two began talking and acting suspiciously.

Meanwhile, Jail Warden Rolando Diaz had directed the four jail guards on duty at the time, namely Danilo Colis, Julio Tamondong, German Bero and Hued Velasco, to explain themselves for the incident.

Provincial Legal Officer Geraldine Baniqued said depending on their explanation, formal administrative charges will be filed if warranted.

The police filed case for direct assault against Zarate at the Prosecutor’s Office. (Tita Roces)
