THE  ‘Brigada Iskwela’, an annual activity of the Department of Education (DepEd) with parents, teachers and other stakeholders will be held simultaneously in all public schools in the country from May 18 to 23, a week before the opening of classes for school year 2015-2016 on the first Monday of June this year.

This was announced by Ma. Linda Ventenilla, an official of the Dagupan City Schools Division, to ensure that classrooms and teachers are ready for the start of the classes on June.

She told the KBP Forum here on Thursday that during the week-long ‘Brigada Iskwela’, parents, including barangay officials and other stakeholders will go to schools and assess the schools’ needs and provide for these via the bayanihan way.

The activities include repair and maintenance of facilities, cleaning and repainting of walls of classrooms.

But fewer teachers will be joining the Brigada because most will be attending a seminar on K to 12.

In the same forum, Provincial Board Member Danilo Uy, chairman on education of the Pangasinan provincial board said that ‘Brigada Iskwela’ is needed because the budget for the maintenance, operating and other expenses (MOOE) provided for public schools is not enough to provide for all the schools’ needs.
