Police net more pushers, loose firearms

CAMPAIGN GAINS MOMENTUM

LINGAYEN–There has been no let up in the campaign of the Pangasinan police against illegal drug and loose firearms as shown in the number of arrests scored by lawmen last week.

These operations were conducted even as the changing of the guards at the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office was taking place with the assumption last May 13 of P/Senior Superintendent Belli Tamayo as the new OIC-Provincial Director.

The fifth most-wanted drug personality in Bayambang was arrested in a drug buy-bust operation conducted by the police in coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) on May 14 in Barangay Dusoc, Bayambang.

CARTOONnews 150517Lawmen seized from Ramon Melecio, alias “Agbuyak”, 41, one heat-sealed transparent sachet containing a crystalline substance called shabu, a marked P500 bill and a cellphone which he used in selling illegal drugs to still unidentified customers.

Also arrested on May 14  in Poblacion, Sual was Aris Sarmiento, 40, of Barangay Gabon, Calasiao, who sold one sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover police officer who acted as poseur buyer.

In Barangay Warey, Malasiqui, Mohammad Naif, alias JB and Jabbar, 18, was arrested after he handed one sachet of shabu to a police operative who acted as buyer. When frisked, lawmen found six more sachets of alleged shabu in his possession.

Meanwhile, the police found an estimated two grams of shabu placed inside a heat-sealed sachet when they raided the house of Carlito Santos, 46, in Barangay Sapang, Sta. Barbara last May 13, where they seized a loaded home-made Caliber 38 revolver.

Except for Santos, all the suspects were charged for violation of Section 5 and 11 of Republic Act 9165  Meanwhile, Santos was charged for violation of RA 10591 (illegal possession of firearm and ammunition) and RA 9165.

Also charged for violation of RA 10591 was Bernardo de Vera, 34,  whose house in Barangay Telbag, Bayambang was raided by the police at about 6:30 a.m. of March 14.

Raiders from the Bayambang police, Highway Patrol Group, Special Weapons and Tactics and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group from Dagupan City seized one Caliber 9 mm. Armscor pistol, one magazine for Cal. 9MM, nine ammunition for M-14, five ammunition for M-16, three ammunition for Calo. AK-47 and 29 ammunition for Cal. 22.

The raiders were armed with a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Renato, Pinlac of Branch 57 in San Carlos City.

Also recently arrested and charged was Petronio Cruz, 53, with one colt MK TV/series ’70, where 45 automatic caliber pistol with five pieces of live ammunition and one magazine were found in his residence. The search was witnessed by Barangay Captain Jose Dela Cruz, Kagawad Sonia Ventura and Chief Tanod Eduardo Tamondong. (Leonardo Micua)
