Pangasinan subject in school curriculum lauded

LINGAYEN—Appreciation of Pangasinan history and culture by future generations of Pangasinenses will help strengthen their regional identity.

Celia Fernandez, Department of Education (DepEd) Pangasinan 1 superintendent, said as much as she hailed the DepEd’s policy making the study of Pangasinan as part of the curriculum under the K to 12 educational system.

“We are now integrating with the world and it’s important that we take pride in our own identity, ” Fernandez said who expressed full support for the compulsory study of Pangasinan history and culture.

She cited the singing of the Pangasinan Hymn and the use of mother tongue among schools in the division as examples of their concrete acts to intensify the youth’s love for their province.

She also endorsed the use of “Pinablin Dalin,” the history book recently introduced by the Pangasinan Historical and Cultural Commission, as a major reference material for both high school and college students.

The book was launched during the commemorative program of the 435th Agew na Pangasinan (Pangasinan founding anniversary) last April 10.

Meanwhile, DepEd-Pangasinan 1 joins the rest of the DepEd community in preparing for this year’s Brigada Iskwela, an annual DepEd activity with parents, village officials, and other stakeholders in preparing schools for the school year on May 18-23. (Johanne Macob)
