Pangasinan Muslims vow support to development

THE more than 60,000 Muslims (including Balik Islam) residing in Pangasinan vowed to be more active in the socio-economic growth of the community during their meeting in Dagupan City last Saturday.

Some 50 leaders and representatives of various chapters of the Pangasinan Integrated Muslims Assembly, Inc. headed by Hadji Hassan Lindongan, outgoing president, vowed to cooperate with the government and redefine the role and participation of Muslims in the development.

In that meeting, Guialoson Macmoud, head of the Bayambang Chapter, was elected president by acclamation.

Elected with Macmoud were: Ahmad Carlos, vice president; Mangontara Sultan, secretary general; Yousoph Cornelio, assistant secretary; Sultan Hussain Barodi, treasurer; Rashid Gilsarmento, auditor; Marlon Esmail, business manager; Abdullah Fernandez and Mujahid Gumpal, public information officers; Khalid dela Fuente, Abdul Aziz Ferrer, Abdul Karim Llanillo, sgts. At Arms.

Past President Hadji Hassan Lindongan, is chairman, council of elders; while Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) Director Gen. Isagani Neris, founder, is senior adviser.

Gov. Amado Espino Jr., Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil, and Col. Rey Biay were named advisers.

Macmod took over the PIMA presidency that was headed earlier by Allan Maoser, Sultan Hussain Barodi, and Lindongan,

PIMA was organized by then Pangasinan Provincial Director Isagani Nerez.

The meeting also discussed the group’s plan to establish a cemetery or memorial park exclusively for Muslims in Central Pangasinan.

In the meeting, newsman Jun Velasco discussed several offers by Padilla and Angeles for the purpose.

The group also acknowledged the support of Gov. Amado T. Espino, Jr. and Rep. Leopoldo Bataoil for promoting neighborliness between Muslims and non-Muslims in the 2nd District.
