SAN CARLOS CITY— The Central Pangasinan Electric Cooperative (CENPELCO) reported that from 2012 to 2014, 401 sitios in 14 towns and one city already enjoy electricity under the Sitio Electrification Program (SEP).

And 200 sitios more will be energized this year under the same project while 120 sitios will be energized by the electrification program of Energy Team of the Sual Coal Fired Power Plant to their host communities in Sual, Labrador, Bugallon and Mangatarem.

Engr. Rodrigo Corpuz, general manager of CENPELCO, said the electrification project in far-flung barangays in central Pangasinan was made possible with P154 million funding from the general appropriations act (GAA).

Corpuz said Cenpelco’s responsibility is to maintain the lines.

“This is covered by the energy regulation law”, said Corpuz.

The formal switch-on ceremony for the energized sitios will be held during the annual general membership assembly on May 30 to be led by energy secretary Jericho Petilla.

“Cenpelco will report on the accomplishments, plans, programs and discuss issues faced by our cooperative during that meeting”, said Corpuz. (Hilda Austria)
