A GATHERING of the country’s best duathletes will set the stage for the ‘First Ricky Diocares Duathlon Championship’ to be held on July 12 at the Jose R. de Venecia Sr. Expressway Extension in Dagupan City.

According to Jojo Ramos, president of the organizing Metro Dagupan Cycling Club, the invitational run-bike-run competition will be run in four-age categories, 15-25, 26-35, 36-45 and 46.

Expected to lead the pack are Pangasinan stalwarts and national team members Robeno Javier of Santo Tomas, Robinson Esteves of Urdaneta City, Jeric Buhian of Asingan and John Chicano of Manila to spearhead the star-studded cast.

Ramos said the distance of the first running contest is five kilometers while the bike event is 40 kilometers and the third and last episode is another three-kilometer footrace.

Trophies, medals and cash prizes will be awarded for the winners in each division.
“This first duathlon event is in honor of our beloved late president Ricky Diocares, a cyclist and a runner who passed away last March 15,” Ramos said. “And if successful, the event will be held annually,” he added. (JAG, Jr.)
