Cojuangco pledges to help conversion of Santiago Island

COJUANGCO UPDATES

FROM BARANGAY TO TOWN

FIRST District Rep. Jesus “Boying” Celeste and former First District Rep. Mark Cojuangco share a common dream that they both hope to fulfill after the 2016 elections—to make Santiago Island of Bolinao, Pangasinan become a town.

During the recent fiesta celebration of Santiago Island attended by various officials and political personalities led by Celeste and Cojuangco, both told residents their commitment to make this a reality.

Celeste, who, with his siblings, Mayor Arthur Celeste of Alaminos City, Mayor Noli Celeste and Vice Mayor Alfonso Celeste of Bolinao, declared their support to the gubernatorial plan of Cojuangco in 2016, said they will exert all efforts to make Santiago Island a town as he already took initial steps in Congress for this plan.

Former Fifth District Rep. Mark Cojuangco joins celebration of residents of Santiago Island led by their Representative Jesus Celeste and Bolinao Mayor Noli Celeste.

The Celeste brothers were present during the gathering with Board Member Rene Sison and barangay captains of Santiago Island, namely, Agustin Caasi (Binabalian), Gabriel Lopez (Dewey), Oliver Cabungan (Goyoden), Diosdado Carriedo (Lucero), Marcelo Caaya (Pilar), Edison Camero (Salud) and Dario Cali (Victory).

Celeste said he is certain Cojuangco, who was guest speaker in the said event, will strongly support them in this vision.

“I know that as soon as our new governor (Cojuangco) assumes his post, we could do more projects and he could help us in this endeavor,” the congressman said.

He added that the Santiago Island can already be declared a town, adding that “we should act, and not only talk”.

He said making the island a town is no joke as it entails a lot of hard work to do. He said documentation is ongoing as part of the requirements.

Celeste said Santiago Island is very precious to the Celestes having been from the town of Bolinao.

He mentioned his fulfilled promise to the people in the area when he provided a landing barge for the residents easier transport to and from the island.

For his part, Cojuangco lauded Celeste, for his efforts for the progress of the first district, especially in Bolinao.

He said he would talk to his wife, Fifth District Rep. Kimi Cojuangco, about Celeste’s plan.

Cojuangco added that as the provincial chairman of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) founded by his father, business tycoon and former ambassador Eduardo “Danding” Cojuangco Jr., he would solicit the support of the more than 40 congressmen across the country who belong to their party for Celeste’s initiative.

Cojuangco said two senators, Tito Sotto and Loren legarda, belong to the NPC and he would also seek the help of other senators who are sympathetic to the cause of their party.

While he was in Bolinao, he noticed the wide roads initiated by Celeste which are similar to the ones he made in the fifth district when he was still congressman.

He also lauded the “Balikatan Project” of Celeste in road improvements to which he donated cement, the municipal government provided sand and gravel while the barangay council provided the labor.
