ANOTHER FIRST FOR DAGUPAN

AFTER the stringent austerity measures adopted by the Fernandez administration in 2013 to cover budget deficit left by the Lim administration, the Dagupan City government finally reported an unprecedented P53 million-budget surplus in 2014.

According to City Budget Officer Luz De Guzman, the surplus was made possible by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez’s policy directing further cost-cutting measures and close monitoring of collection of taxes.

The cost-cutting measures included reduction of overtime pay and other administrative expenses.

The reported surplus weighed in on the approval of the P65.3 million Supplemental Budget No. 01 for Fiscal Year 2015 by the Sangguniang Panlungsod.

The supplemental budget will cover the cost of several infrastructure projects due for implementation this year, among them the Women Center, the four-storey evacuation center at Barangay Salapingao, construction of sanitary toilets in Pugaro and Calmay, elevation of roads and drainage system in Pantal, Puelay and Caranglaan, construction of multi-functional covered court and a 3-storey nine classrooms School Building for Senior High School at the Dagupan City National High School (DCNHS).

The city government will also purchase four vehicles including two coasters, four motorcycles for Public Order and Safety Office, and 10 garongs for Waste Management Division. (CIO)
