GRACE PERIOD ENDS

DAGUPAN’S Task Force Bantay Ilog has been given the go-signal to begin dismantling and demolishing fish pens after the grace period extended by Mayor Belen T. Fernandez to the pen owners has already lapsed last April 21.
Among the fish pens to be dismantled are those operated by Erwin Dy, whose structure measured 9,000 square meters, and a certain Mr. Prado with 3,000 square meters both located in Sitio Talaib in Barangay Calmay.

“These pens will have to go, no more extension,” Ms. Fernandez said.
According to City Agriculturist Emma Molina, the task force must complete the dismantling and demolition by May 15.

Most of the existing fish pens are located in Tocok in Barangay Lucao and Talaib, Calmay.

As of last week, Molina said the city has already demolished a total of 2,065 illegal fish pens.

Ms. Fernandez reiterated that her administration is serious in removing all the illegal fish pens in the city in order to restore the bounty of the rivers to small fishermen in the city.

She stressed that only fish cages and small structures like surewin, skylab, sky blue and batikwas are allowed to operate in the rivers.

The task force, equipped with two new speed boats, resumed its regular monitoring of the river. (CIO)
