MAYOR Belen T. Fernandez called on the city’s elderlies to be active, productive and always live healthy for them to have a longer life.
In a speech during the induction of Barangay Senior Citizens Association last April 14, the mayor said the reason why city government established the Senior Citizen Recreational Center at the People’s Park is to enable senior citizens live a longer quality life.
The center offers free Taichi every Tuesday at 8:00 am and ballroom dancing lessons every afternoon.
All senior citizens are free to use the exercise area where they can also enjoy board games such as scrabble, dama, chess and domino to sharpen their minds.
The mayor said that the city will soon set up computers with internet connection in the center and hire basic computer instructors to teach seniors in using the internet and social networking sites so they will know how to contact their families abroad using modern technology.
Lastly, she called on senior citizens to inform her what other projects they want to be built so that these can be included in the city budget. (CIO photo by Mitz Cresencio)
