MANAOAG — Till Easter Sunday, more than a million devotees have visited the Minor Basilica of Manaoag to renew their devotion to the Lady of the Holy Rosary whose ivory image at the back of the altar is the center of adulation.

P/Chief inspector Edison Revita, town police chief, admitted that though traffic to and from Manaoag is heavy since Palm Sunday, no major vehicular accident was reported.

Revita initially estimated the crowd visiting the basilica at more than 10,000 starting Palm Sunday and increased to 100,000 daily from Holy Thursday to Good Friday and more on Black Saturday and Easter Sunday.

Many of the town’s roads became choke points as most devotees took to the streets and walked.

Locating parking spaces was a monstrous problem for many motorists.

The local government of Manaoag had asked property owners around the basilica to accommodate vehicles parking in their premises.

Revita also asked the Philippine Army to open a part of Camp Tito Abat as parking area for vehicles.
