MORE than 100 livelihood cooperatives and associations in the country have availed of the “Presyo, Trabaho, Kita/Kaayusan” (PTK) program of Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano.

The latest addition is the Malimgas Aliguas Dagupan Vendors Federation (MADAVFE) at the Malimgas Public Market in Dagupan City after it met with Mr. Cayetano last Thursday.

The PTK, an advocacy of the Senate majority leader, seeks to assist organized sectors that have limited access to capital in their daily operations through micro-financing in order to improve the profitability of their operations.

Mr. Cayetano turned over P100,000 as fresh capital for the association’s mirco-financing project that will enable its members to borrow funds with low interests instead of being victimized by ‘5/6’ loan sharks.

MADAVFE is the thirteenth batch to receive PTK fund raised by friends of Mr. Cayetano for his advocacy.

Mr. Cayetano explained three conditions for the implementation of the PTK project: 1) Availment of loan by members should be easy (not burdened by documentation), 2) Interest rate should range from 1.5-3%; and, 3) There should be an enforcement mechanism to ensure payments and promote responsibility.

He vowed to further help successful beneficiaries as he urged the market vendors to be responsible by paying on time in order to make the fund grow faster.

Ako’y umaasa na dumating ‘yong panahon na maging government-sponsored project ito, na bawat isang region ay bigyan ng isang bilyon as fund for miro-financing,” Mr. Cayetano added. (Johanne Macob)
