ANOTHER Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) from Barangay Pantal in Dagupan City was rescued from her abusive employer in Saudi Arabia with the help of Mayor Belen Fernandez.

Beverly Bellocillo who is finally home visited Mayor Fernandez at her office last Tuesday to thank her for helping in rescuing her from her Saudi Arabian employer and her eventual repatriation back home.

“I was very happy to see Beverly Bellocillo when she visited me because she is finally home after we rescued her from her abusive employer in Saudi Arabia,” Fernandez said.

She said Beverly contacted her (mayor) through Facebook and told her about her suffering as a household service provider where she was being maltreated physically and emotionally in her work place.

The city government will help her start a new life by providing her with livelihood training and employment, the mayor said.

Bellocillo was the 18th OFW rescued with the help of the OFW Desk in Dagupan City manned by the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) headed by Joy Siapno.

After Bellocillo asked Mayor Fernandez for help, the OFW Desk immediately contacted the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

“In just two weeks, Beverly was rescued, said Barangay Chairwoman Julie Perez of Pantal, Dagupan, who accompanied Bellocillo to Mayor Fernandez.

Fernandez said the city has a good working relationship with OWWA Region 1 that swiftly acts on anything referred to it by the city.

Aside from the OFW Desk, the city government also established the Barangay Migrant Desk in all the 31 barangays of the city for faster coordination in rescuing overseas Dagupeños who are victims of maltreatment.

At the same time. Siapno said all Dagupenos should feel free to contact the OFW Desk at city hall if they have family members or friends being abused by their employers abroad so that they too can be rescued and repatriated back home.
