SAN FABIAN— Mishandling one’s handgun can lead to a fatal accident and fortunately for a policewoman, she was merely slightly wounded after her male colleague accidentally fired his gun on April 13 after their flag raising ceremony in front of the town police station.

PO 1 Nathalie Grace Serrano Jasmin who was standing in front of PO3 Florante Narvas Biasura was hit on her left thigh by the slug that bounced off the cemented ground when the latter accidentally pulled the trigger of his 9mm pistol Glock 17 as he was about to return the gun to its holster.

Biasura had just inserted the loaded magazine of his issued firearm and released the slide lock pin and he accidentally pulled the trigger and fired a bullet to the cemented ground.

Jasmin was immediately rushed to Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City for treatment.

The accidental firing happened after the conduct of monthly inspection of firearms led by Police Senior Inspector Danilo Perez, the town deputy police chief.

Biasura was required to execute an explanation regarding the incident while his firearm was placed under the custody of San Fabian Police Station for proper disposition. (Tita Roces)
